Chicago Whitesox: Chi-Sox Bar & Grill

The Challenge

Chi-Sox Bar & Grill is the newest restaurant opened by the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The restaurant is open every game day morning and on the walls is a veritable museum of historic White Sox memorabilia. The original stained concrete was not holding up to large volume of traffic in the restaurant. They were looking for a decorative yet durable floor finish that would be fitting for the showcase restaurant.

The Solution

Thermal-Chem Manufacturers Representative Chris Wesolowski and certified installer Tamara Johnson of Armored Floors assessed the White Sox’s flooring requirements and recommended 787 DecoEssence in Antique Leather with a matte finish. They also recommended the addition of ThermalGrip, a fine particle anti-skid additive for enhanced slip resistance. This decorative epoxy flooring system contains a metallic pigment to produce a unique three-dimensional look with incredible depth and vibrancy. The 100% solids seamless system is impervious to moisture and provides a durable floor surface that requires minimal maintenance.

The Result

The 5,700 sq/ft project was completed by Armored Floors in only three days. First the concrete was prepped by grinding and shot blasting to remove the existing finish. Next, they applied a pigmented prime coat, followed by the DecoEssence in Antique Leather. It was then top coated with DecoFinish M E65, a matte finish urethane top coat. The White Sox have been extremely pleased with the beauty and durability of their new floor and are considering it for other areas of their ballpark.
